For some time now, a major source of core income for WoTC (Wizards of the Coast) has been their cheap plastic collectable minatures line for D&D. For those that use minatures they are a cheap alternative (although I still prefer Dennis Loubet's Cardboard Heroes [a pity they were stolen whole by a previous game group]). Now one of the reasons for this was that WoTC hadn't produced
anything of real significance beyond the 3rd edition rule books. Opening your game system to other designers to play in, as they have done, means that you have a downright Darwinian competition amongst game settings, and, frankly Eberron doesn't cut it compared to some of the other product out there. And there are only somany rule supplements and clarifications on the basic rule system that the punters can be made to buy.

Time for a new video card. )

As an indication of how far gone I am at the moment, I heard an excellent song playing on my stereo (which was set to random). Moving, complicated, and emotive, it satisfied both my catagouries for a favourite song, in that it was both musically and thematically involved.

"Oh!" I thought, "I really must make an LJ entry to say exactly how excellent a song it really is. I know lots of other people who will absolutely love this."

It was Father of Storms by The Merlin Bird.

My reccomendations still hold, but I now find myself embarrassed by not realizing the identity of one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite groups.

Sorry [livejournal.com profile] shadow_5tails.

I'll be forgetting the words to Burning Times next!

Although truth to tell I already have once or twice, but so has Adrienne, so that's ok.

My mistranslated music quizz has finished. If anyone would like to see the entries (and the answers), they are now unscreened, and the winner is the irrepressable [livejournal.com profile] drjon who managed 9 correct out of 9 attempts.

I found it interesting that a lot of people got the song I thought would be hardest (#9) and that it took so long for people to recognise "freedom of choice" (#2).

But my favourite tranliteration was of Bowie's Fashion(#7) through Italian – "girisi towards the way of left! girisi towards the Oooh of right ... we are the squad of the goon and we're coming to the Blow-blow of Blow-blow of the city."

Maybe next time I'll invoke a thesaurus...
