weighty matters
Mar. 15th, 2005 04:38 am| Why can I never refuse a decent book sale? My latest shipment of light reading apparently weighs in at a decent 19kg according to the courier slip. Still, it is better than the last Unley library book sale where I rescued at least 4 times that, not including an actual printed copy of the Encyclopedia Britannica that isn't really very old (just on 6 years counting yearly updates). A lot of my geek friends asked why, especially when you can get it on CD which is faster to search, easier to use, and takes up a lot less room. They don't get it when I look at them wide-eyed and say in a strained voice "It's the Brittanica!" Barbarians! Knowledge has weight and you are in no doubt of the weight of the knowledge when you hold it in your hands. I'm sure there must be some bibliophiles somewhere that agree with me. Where are you when you are needed Rupert? |

Date: 2005-03-14 03:54 pm (UTC)Because you're a biblioholic? If there's anything you want to get rid of (trick question I know - it's all good ;) ) you know where I live... Which reminds me, I need to organise a birthday party for myself some time near winter solstice. What weekends are you less busy? For myself, before rather than after is more likely to be unbusy (two bridge trips, a work conference, Spiral's Solstice, Winter Solstice itself, and when all that is over (not in that order) we're in September) but I'd like to book early because I need to see you. I feel in need of serpentine hugs...
