I'm starting to get more than a bit annoyed at Hollywood. First of all, they set Constantine in Los Angeles, but now, according to Variety there is the following additional travesty:

Director Neil LaBute is remaking the classic 1973 film The Wicker Man. LaBute has adapted the screenplay, in which a sheriff investigates the disappearance of a young girl on a remote island off the coast of Maine. His hopes of unraveling the girl's disappearance become increasingly uncertain when he discovers evidence of pagan rituals...

Oh yes and the actor stakes are just as bad too. Just as I cannot think of anyone to make a worse Constantine than Keanu (I'll be fine as soon as I take some laxatives) Reeves, we have Nicholas (All I Need is A Personality) Cage replacing Edward Woodward in the title role.

Oh Callan, where fore art thou now... [1]

[1] You Americans you can substitute The Equalizer for Callan.

And in the mismatched actor stakes, Stuart Townsend (Lestat from Queen of the Damned) replaces Darren McGavin as Kolchak in the remake of The Night Stalker. Another triumph in miscasting methinks.

BTW if you haven't seen any of the original Night Stalker do so. They are quite fun.

Actually I'm afraid I have to take back what I said about Constantine. Keanu actually turns in a fairly good performance in the role. He still doesn't act, but he does suit the role.

As for a film it is quite good provided you don't bring anything to the film from outside it (either from theology or Hellblazer).

Also a nice treatment of the Nephilim, but not as nice as the Nephilim RPG that was published by Multisim. <sigh> I have an 800 page campaign in very esoteric and jargon laiden french to attempt to translate sometime. But I'm told by friends it is a very very good campaign.
