I picked up a copy of Voyage of the Shadowmoon at a discount bookstore ... and was hooked on the first page and couldn't put it down. Then I discovered the sequel, Glass Dragons, and was due for another night with very little sleep (and annoying my neighbours with bouts of insane giggling). Sean McMullen's wry wit and enjoyable characters make these books quite enjoyable to read. Well worth reading, but you really should disregard the cover hype.

And my selected quotation is from Glass Dragons:

"`Terikal, dear," said Examiner, "just because we are learned, deadly, immortal, and more powerful than the entire Sargolan Imperial Militia, it does not mean we cannot be small, eccentric, and slightly peculiar."

OK. So it's not much of a quote but the humour in these books is complex, interwoven and builds rapidly to a crescendo, and then another, and another. To properly convey this I would have to quote an overlarge section of it. Very well crafted.
