300 wasn't as bad as I feared it could be, although I did find myself cringing at some of the anachronisms (little stuff, like stirrups for cavalry, as opposed to the major stuff like pet rhinosaurs). I did really like the costumes of the Persian Immortals (in reality so named because the unit was always kept up to it's full fighting strength rather than being invincible), but then again, as anyone who knows me will know I have a Thing for masks, masques, masquerades, and maskirova. And joy of joys, they did mention the Thespian contingent (that's the soldiers from Thespis as opposed to the wandering troupe of the Lord Chamberlain's Men that happened to be passing by). Admittedly in not very complemantary terms, but it was a Spartan speaking.

[I find it interesting that most people choose Athens or Sparta (or even Persia) in the Peloponeasan Wars. I chose Thespis and another friend chose Corinth. I believe both were stalwart Spartan allies though, so it does kind of colour which side I favoured. Like many stressed cultures, the Spartans are interesting to lokk at but not really something you want to emulate. In the end, they were essentially the victims of their own propoganda.]

And speaking of propoganda number films, my fellow Illuminati will be glad to know there was a trailer for the film The Number 23 shown beforehand. Fnord.

Indeed. I couldn't help thinking yesterday when we were shooting the Merlin Bird video that you're going to love it. *grin* We even got our drummer into a mask for a while there...

I love it already. Admittedly the flash page for the Merlin Bird website was the prime reason I actually bought the CD before having listened to any of the music. Anyone that liked masks to that extent had to be able to play good music. And I was right! Which reminds me I have to get some more to float around to interested parties over here in the desolate and uncivilized wilderness of not-Melbourne.

Although I now have the image of a drummer locked in a iron full-head mask ala Dumas' The Man in the Iron Mask, which probably cast Geoff in the role of D'Artagnan....

And video? Where video? ["There castle, there wolf."] <evil grin>

Well, given that the raw footage was only shot a couple of days ago, it's more like "When video" - to which the scheduled answer is around the 20th of this month. It'll be going up on YouTube, and on Google Vids if I get my way, thence to be embedded in The Site I Don't Like to Mention. We also plan to submit it to Rage, since it's been done at braodcast quality...

And yeah, the imagery was striking enough that I remembered them and their music a year after having first encountered it, which is why I responded to their search for a singer. I wouldn't go so far as to expect good music on the basis of good graphic design and motif choice, but in this case, it worked very well indeed!

As for Geoff as D'Artagnan, heh. *grin*
