Upcoming musical events of possible interest to Adelaideans with similiar musical tastes: Sunday January 28: The Gov once again hosts The Idea of North, that internationally acclaimed acapella group from Canberra (with one ex-Adelaidean). Their live performances are always great to go to because of their stagecraft and the great fun they have in performing - it's contagious. Besides, it is the only place you'll hear most of their comedic pieces, which to my mind, are the height of the show. 7pm for a 7:30pm start, although The Gov will probably be serving dinner in the gig as normal from 6pm. $28/$22 (Venuetix or The Gov for Dinner/Show packages). Saturday Febuary 10: Adelaide pagan-folk-rock group Spiral Dance and Melbourne's ethereal post-dram-pop group Dandelion Wine are playing a gig at The Night Train on Light Square. This will have a Grimm's Faerie Tale theme, so come as your favourite faerie tale character. Hmmmm. I wonder how many Lady Godivas there will be. Maybe I should come as the Emperor so that people can enjoy my new ensemble [only joking!]. $10 entry, 10pm until late. Sunday Febuary 11: Didn't hear enough of them last night? Or simply scared by the possibility I might turn up in that costume? Then come see Spiral Dance and Dandelion Wine play at the Cafe Nova in Gawler from 2 - 5pm. $10 entry. Saturday Febuary 17: Spiral Dance and Dandelion Wine are playing at The Spanish Club in Fitzroy. Yep. That's in Melbourne, which is why this listing has been coloured a suitably stormy grey. EDIT: It looks like Wendy Rule is also on the line-up of this gig. And I wonder if Dandelion Wine knows what they are in for .... I've heard the last infamous Spiral/Wendy concert... Still no sign of The Merlin Bird wanting to tour Adelaide, but we live in hope. |

Date: 2007-01-03 05:05 am (UTC)The Merlin Bird will sadly not even be thinking about touring until they're all on the same continent again. *wry grin*

Date: 2007-01-03 06:07 am (UTC)And you should go, especially as they (well, Spiral at least), are hoping to use the Night Train and Spanish Club gigs to create a live album. So the more enthusiasm the better. Unfortuneately the Spiral website is lacking any further information at the moment. I'll make sure they update it before they go.
And we can always hope with sufficient prodding that all of The merlin Bird will eventually occupy the same hemisphere for long enough for something to be accomplished. <grin>

Date: 2007-01-03 08:40 am (UTC)Geoff apparently got involved in a conversation with Dandelion Wine about the possibility of playing together when we're all on the same side of the planet, but I'm not sure how it turned out...
