In the dim dark days of my old wargaming club (SAHWS), there grew a motto amongst the players of Risk that had more than an element of truth to it. And that was "He who holds Japan, rules the world." Of course, this was an immediate affront [1] to all the right-minded individualists that tend to make up a wargaming club, and the motto was soon changed to "He who holds Japan, holds Japan." Although personally I don't think it is truly complete until you add the addendum "For the moment anyway."

Anyway, since there are many boardgamers who read this I thought I would point out that Military Simulations (http://www.milsims.com.au) is having a sale of the new AH boardgames Roborally, Risk 2210, Betrayal at House on the Hill, and Nexus Ops at A$45 each (instead of about A$80). And no, I am not connected to Milsims or Hasbro; just thought people might be interested. Please note that the Roborally is the more abbreviated AH version (with double-sided boards); you can play classic Risk using Risk 2210, which is more fun than 2210 IMNSHO; Betrayal is a fun game with an interesting concept (50 different end-games) but tends to be unbalanced because of this randomness; and I'll probably have to buy Nexus Ops to see how it plays. Now remind me of how much money I could have saved if they were at this price to begin with.

seems to me that each community of risk players develops their own unique key position on the board. i've played with groups who variously held similar views regarding places in europe, the americas or africa/middle east.

equally as important as having games to play, is haing player to beat play against.

i can't help but read roborally as 'robe-orally' ... stupid brian (i have semi-officially accepted that my brain has named itself brian).
