My musical tastes are relatively eclectic and subject to variance according to my mood. I generally prefer some degree of intricate complexity in the rythmic and melodic structures of the music I really enjoy listening to.

So why am I suddenly hungry for Goth Metal?

Because it's FUN! *bounces*

Besides, it can be complex. It just doesn't wanna!

Hmmmm. Any suggestions for interesting things to listen to? My knowledge of that side of goth music is worse than my knowledge of jazz (as I do remember most of Nazi proscriptions against jazz, which is something at least.

Then again my musical tastes haven't drifted to far with currently listening to Oriasm, Tiamat, The Gathering and Aerial2020. The last one is only a very slight shift across from Afro Celt Sound System one must admit.

Ooh, I've wanted to hear more of The Gathering for a while, but I confess I don't know the others. My knowledge is somewhat limited, given that it was mostly gained through the bounce-inducing discovery that operatic sopranos can sing metal, but runs through Lacuna Coil to Within Temptation, via Nightwish (you have to hear their cover of Over the Hills and Far Away) and Opeth (though most of what I know of these last is that a friend raves about them and keeps promising to introduce me to their music...). Oh, and Elis, who probably just count - I don't really follow these things are defined, but I like their music. *grin*

Pretentiousness varies between all of the above, of course.

I know of the existence of Epica, After Forever, Tristania, and The Sins of Thy Beloved, but haven't ever heard them. I do want to hear some of Apocalyptica's stuff at some point, though, because heavy metal 'cellos just can't be passed up! Oh, and I have Operatika's demo track, which is cool, but don't know aobut the rest of their stuff.

I probably should provide links to all these, but that last was the only one I had at hand. Still, you're clever, you'll be able to find them all. *nodnods*

Oh, and there's always HI-damn-you-all-we're-not-goths-we're-"Love-Metal"-honest-M...

Nope. I handle my Poor Impulse Control by cross-posting messages to rec.soc.israel and rec.soc.palestine.

The worrisome thing is that now I don't mind songs that I used to detest, such as Nightfall's cover of the Dead Can dance song The Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove. Considering the possible pathology of my Disease I'm now kind of concerned about this relatively sudden change. Which means I might have to drop over to Melbourne for a PET scan sometime soon...
