[A "+" means there are other shows but this is the one I'm probably going to see.] The nice bit is that most of the stuff I'd really like to see is on the whole Fringe, so I'm not particularly rushed over dates. Apart from the solitary dates. Also the list flounders near the end as my brain kind of started skipping stuff, so I might have to look at the Theatre section again. But I suspect a lot of this Fringe will be attempting to discover new "Must See" talent. Or at least as much Fringe as I can cope with this year. There were a lot of musical acts this Fringe, especially Jazz. I think people are learning that the Fringe may be a worthwhile place to attract an audience. Oh well. ETA the non-Fringe events (in italics) happening over that time too (that I know of currently). |

Date: 2011-01-08 08:29 am (UTC)The physical program was in today's Advertiser and should be appearing in all the usual venues soon. Although I was surprised at the number of shows in the guide that have already been cancelled. Particularly irritated by Around The World on 80 Quid. If you get a chance to see Aindrias de Staic do. [Whilst listed under comedy it's actually more of an excellent performance music piece with interspersed anecdotes.]
Bookings opened last week for State Bank customers, so they've had a head start booking shows. Shouldn't matter that much, as only loonies like me tend to book on the first day.
The Garden of Unearthly Delights website and booklet is yet to be released (but it is a much more expensive production than the Fringe Guide). In past years it has been worth checking out because they frequently had shows that never actually made it into the actual Fringe Guide. I've missed My Friend The Chocolate Cake a few times because of that. Remember also that The Garden opens a week before (11 Feb) the official start of the Fringe (18 Feb) and is actually quite a pleasant place before the crowds arrive after the official opening, especially to sit and relax and try whatever new shows are there.
I was surprised at the absence of a lot of successful Edinburgh shows. But then, performers have been saying that it has been almost impossible to book venues this year. Which is a pity. I would have liked to have seen The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: A Romantic Comedy...

Date: 2011-01-08 09:35 am (UTC)Unfortunately I doubt I'll be doing much of the Fringe this year for a number of reasons. The "Caught My Eye" list and trying to discover new stuff is probably just wishful thinking. As it is I'll probably be struggling to see my returning favourites.
Oh well. If life was easy everybody would have one.
"Yay!" for velcro katzen!

Date: 2011-01-09 07:31 am (UTC)My "Enjoy!" was essentially shorthand for "Enjoy whichever subset time, money, energy and opportunity allow!' so take it in the spirit it was intended, from one gimpy type to another? *wry smile*

Date: 2011-01-09 07:54 am (UTC)Why would you think it was taken in a spirit other than intended? [As far as I could tell it was a very fine Calvados with a fine Lakka for appertif. <grin>]
Nope, just me being depressed at how it's increasingly difficult to do stuff, form one gimpy type to another. <grin>

Thus we refute entropy."

Speaking of which, I haven't been a rapturist* for a while and probably should do something about that rather soon... <ponders deeply>
* A rapturist is someone who commits random acts of senseless kindness.

Date: 2011-01-12 03:42 am (UTC)Meanwhile, knowing what form many of your Ransom Acts of Kindness take has me wondering now whether anyone in the US imports/distributes Haigh's chocolate. Probably not, alas...

Date: 2011-01-12 04:16 pm (UTC)One sensless act of kindness coming up...
But that would require you to provide the aforementioned ransom first. Namely, a snail mail address.

Date: 2011-01-19 06:20 pm (UTC)Dearone, that certainly wasn't a demand, or even a request, and I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be treated as such. I appreciate the thought a great deal, but if nothing else, it kinda undermines the 'random' part...

Date: 2011-01-20 10:00 am (UTC)The randomness is in suddenly deciding to give out chocolate. The senseless part means that any argument against my doing so is specious and shall be automatically ignored. Although that being said, I tend to stop giving out chocolate when people start expecting it of me. So I definitely didn't take a vague wandering thought of the need for delicious rich and pepperminty Haighs chocolate frogs to be sent across the oceans to make your durance a little less vile to be an actual demand.
So, where to? There's a frog with your name on it waiting to hop across the pond.

Date: 2011-01-21 09:44 pm (UTC)Or rather, I can, but then we'll go back and forth a lot and still not manage to convince each other. So if you're going to be so kind to me, it seems at this point that I should accept that with good grace. *grin*
And thank you.
