Still on musical things. With the break-up of Dead Can Dance a number of years ago I thought all we could look forward to was the occaisional solo album Brendan and Lisa. So I was quite chuffed to discover that Black Lotus Records had brought out "The Lotus Eaters" - A Tribute to Dead Can Dance. This is a two CD set of DCD covers by various bands. While interesting in it's own right, it also serves as a good sampler of groups with DCD-type sounds, many of whom warrant some further investigation by me. Although, personally I think I shall give the group that produced a hard-rock version of The Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove a miss, as it completely negates the austere beauty of the original. YMMV. On a totally different (and more widely variable) set of notes this weekend was also the Worst Folk Song Competition in Verdun, sponsored by the local eco-group Trees For Life. Or rather we sponsored Trees For Life by buying trees (or rather pieces of pulped dead trees which represented four new live trees to be planted in the Adelaide Hills) and presenting them to the entertainers we thought most entertaining. Much fun was had by all. Although I couldn't stay for the entire event I suspect that Tamsin's "smile" managed to replant at least one entire eucalyptus forest... <grin> |

Matching a face to this name may not be obvious, but you probably could if you wished. Ask me (in person), and I will tell you who I am.
