Do you miss the old flame wars on rec.arts.sf-lovers. You know, the ones like which TV spaceship would win in a fight, the USS Enterprise or the Battlestar Galactica? [A pointless question, as everyone from the group knows that the winner would eventually be Doctor Who in the TARDIS.] Well it seems Del Ray/Spectrum are doing a death match of famous book personalities as they duel to to death. The mixup is entirely random, so some of the matches are kind of one-sided, and some of the more obscure characters suffer in comparison with the more popular, but why don't you go and influence the outcome. I predict the Round 2 match of Hermione Granger vs Cthulhu to be an absolute sellout. Who is this Vlad Taitos guy anyway?

how does one influence the outcome? Is it determined by how many people comment that Ged will wipe the floor with Edward etc? The list was amusing but I couldn't find a cast your vote here button or similar.

There are links embedded in the diagram which take you to the contest page which compares both players and sets the scenario. The voting buttons are at the bottom. It does however look like only the first two divisions are up and running at the moment however.
