is it over then under or under then over?
Nov. 17th, 2004 03:55 pm| Last weekend was the fifth Beltaine feast held by the Flinders University Pagan Society (the third featuring Spiral Dance, who are probably Australia's most famous pagan band). Although lacking such highlights as last year's "Wenches Auction" and "Pin the Phallus on the Pan competition," the presence of Spiral Dance more than made up for it and dancing continued into the early hours of the morning. Although our first attempt at doing a maypole dance was an unmitigated disaster, we got it right the second time. Once again Pauly-Worly beat me on Gardens of Light, although I didn't do too badly given my lack of aerobic fitness after a month of enforced inactivity. So far that's one victory to me, and countless victories to him. I'll outdance his ability to play once again one of these days... It was good to catch up with some people I haven't seen for some time, such as I'm thinking of going to see Faun Fables tomorrow at the Jade Monkey. Unusually for me this is simply on the grounds of an interesting review in a recent local music magazine, without having previously sampled the music via other means, so I have absolutely no idea what to expect. Although the keywords gothic folk and fairy-tale romance featured prominently in the article, so I'm hoping I'll enjoy it. I do like some of the quotes she has chosen on her web-page though: "My voice was given to me as an instrument for inspiration for my friends, and as a tool of torture and destruction to my enemies.” - Diamanda Galas Although it would be more funto go with others I never had much success getting others to accompany me to see strange bands. If I had, I probably would have discovered Spiral at least two years earlier. But back then I honoured musicians much more than I do now. After all, they can create something that is well beyond anything I can create. Although, probably due to exposure to Spiral, this is wearing off. I might even venture to talk to them after a gig. Shock. Horror. Oh the missed opportunities! <grin> I'll tell people how it all went later. |
