By electronically looping the various sounds of her violin, Xani Kolac creates extremely intricate mutli-layered music ... live. Aided by percussionist Tom Gannon, the duo make up The Twoks. The rhythms and sounds organically grow into a living thing as they are added and taken away.

The whole is much greater than the sum of the parts.

I saw them twice last Fringe (due entirely to Scod's new daughter) and thoroughly enjoyed them both times. She plays enthusiastically using her feet to manipulate the various sound effect equipment and loops as much as her hands play the violin. This time there were none of the excellent improv pieces featured last time, but, in exchange, she sang instead (and she has an absolutely lovely voice).

Definitely worth seeing whenever you get the chance, and I'm looking forward to the new debut CD. Try their MySpace page, and then double-take when you realise that these are actually live rather than studio performances...

Tomorrow is My Friend The Chocolate Cake. After that I've got to look for some Groucho Marx glasses for the last performance of Sherlock Holmes & The Saline Solution on Saturday. Anyone else want to join me?
