gen con releases of passing interest
Aug. 16th, 2008 02:25 pmIs it the website that makes getting Maid the RPG so tempting to get? Now was that walk 3 blocks forward, turn right, 2 blocks forward and on the left? Anyway, this looks like a possible alternative to further games of My Life With Master. And I must get around to reordering Hellas again. The on-line store there are working through cancelled my order because they forgot to charge shipping ... 5Mb before my pdf copy completed downloading. <sigh> Next time I'll wait until it's in my hands before I say anything. <grin> Still, it looks good. There's a YouTube teaser here. Strablazer Adventures already acquired (at least the electronic version; the physical copy is still quite some distance away). This is the space opera based on the FATE 2.0 rules (the same as used in Spirit of the Century). Incidentally Cubicle 7 have obtained the license to do the new Doctor Who RPG. I still need to order stuff from IPR, notably Don't Lose Your Mind (the sequel to Don't Rest Your Head). But every time I think about putting in an order I have great difficulty cutting my order down to something reasonable (especially considering that well over 95% of the games I buy never get played). Perhaps Monsters and Other Childish Things. And 3:16 Carnage Among The Stars. And Exquisite Replicas. And... (you see what I mean). And my excuse of waiting until after Gen-Con is almost over. Incidentally Jason Morningstar's Grey Ranks, the excellent game of playing doomed teenage resistance fighters in the Warsaw uprising at the end of WW2, won half of the Diana Jones Award this year. Excellent GM-less game with an interesting mechanic that encourages you to identify with your characters. Now all I have to do is convince other people to play it with me. Mist Robed Gate looks interesting, although I believe it violates SA weapons laws, relying as it does a sheathed knife (that is eventually unsheathed and possibly even plunged into an opponent's character sheet). Oh, and I got my copy of Jadeclaw's first supplement Loot the Burning House. Nicely done, with lots of excellent artwork by Heather Bruton. There are lots of grammatical errors in my copy and at least one printing error, but nothing really major more along the lines of ESL errors. On a side note, for board games, I'm really getting tempted by Agricola, despite the price tag. Maybe I can wait until the next big Mils Sims sale. |
