yule regret it
Jun. 28th, 2005 03:59 pm| Last weekend was the ??th annual Winter Solstice celebration organized by Spiral Dance. I can't provide a number here because there have been so many of them that even the organisers are arguing over how many they have run. This year's theme was a formal Masquerade Ball, which brought out the attendees in their glamorous gowns, elegant tuxedos, and, of course, in masks aplenty. It was run at the Folk Federation of SA and was a vast improvement on the last Spiral gig run there (which consisted of an audience of myself and three other people, compared to fourteen performers [if you count Hot For Joe]). Apart from minor emergencies (like the fire-dancer's loin cloth catching on fire), the event went without a hitch and almost everyone seemed to have a good time by the end of it. Everyone else was recycled as used fire-lighters. The next gig is the combined Inkkubus Sukkubus gig (which will be the only appearance of this renowned English group in Australia at this time, so grab your tickets now). And I want everyone to remember that this is where we are not allowed to perform our special dance moves to the Rape of Maude Bowen! Not at all! Under any circumstances! The temptation should never cross your mind! Forget that they exist! You know it makes sense.[1] After that, Spiral goes into the studio for the rest of the year (apart from the possibility of some interstate festivals), and records their new CD. Hopefully it will be a double CD. [1] Those of you unfamiliar with the special dance moves can see us before the show for detailed instruction, or, as it is simple enough, simply pick it up during the dance. |
