I hate it when ideas won't leave you alone.

I've just been messing around with a Peloponnesian War campaign for Hellas and it's coming together with great alacrity. It's based on the Athenian alliance's stranglehold on several critical trade routes (as far as the Spartan alliance is concerned). Of course the Athenians (or should I say Athenoians) accomplished this through diplomatic means, and the Spartans are about to resort to martial means to solve the problem, which suits the characters of both Hellene cultures in the game.

Although a major problem with this campaign is the apparently superior combat capabilities of the Spartan capital ships compared to the Athenoians. I suspect the Athenoians have more ships though (as they are probably cheaper – it's a pity the costs for capital ships are not provided, but I can see that if they were players would be saving up for one...), and simply run away when one shows up (they are generally faster), whilst another starts harassing Spartan shipping/planets elsewhere. I can see the Spartan High Command cringing at the thought of having to reduce weapons payload to increase the speed of the ship and talking themselves out of the need to do so.

[Hmmmm. The Corinthians (Korinthosians) would have a much more Athenian design sensibility (or at least less of a resistance to building less-powerful ships) which means they would be more effective strategically, which would increase the importance of the Korinthos navy to that of the historical Corinth. (This is the sort of thing that keeps happening when I think about it all).]

Anyway, the real problem with all this is that I already have too many games I want to run on the back-burner to possibly add another one...
