I often think the English do a much better job with vampires thab the Americans for some reason. One of my favourite vampire shows was Ultraviolet. Another looks like it could be the new BBC series Being Human, where a vampire shares a flat with a werewolf and a ghost. I do reccomend watching the pilot episode (produced last year) as well as the series, even though the ghost differs (I think I really do prefer the original ghost and wonder why they changed her). Lots of nice touches, and the possibility of an interesting meta-plot.

On the other hand I also did enjoy the prequel Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans. But then again, Bill Nighy is a quite talented actor. But one of these days I'd like to see vampires experiment in colours other than unrelieved black. So pasé.

Different vampire too, though I'm not sure I'd have noticed if I hadn't known - it's quite a while since the pilot, and I probably wouldn't even have noticed the ghost was different if it wasn't for the hair.

time passing between pilot and production is bad for continuity - actors tend to take roles that actually exist in the meantime ...

I didn't notice the change in the vampire-actor, but then again tall dark angsty vampires are pretty well interchangeable, as are their actors.

Trouble for me is that I have difficulty seeing Bill Nighy as anything other than That Guy Who Plays Aging Rock-stars (Or Their Agents). This made for some dissonance with the last Underworld flick, as I recall...

I see him as an aging hairdresser myself (Blow Dry)...

I thought Being Human was pretty good, worth continuing watching... but I don't know, I was kind of hoping for a comedy. Oh well.

I'm surprised Underworld 3 could be any good. The first was OK, but Night Watch had similar themes and did it so much better. Underworld 2 was just bad bad bad :(

Even knowing what was going to happen (it was a prequel, after all), I still found it quite enjoyable. As for storyline, well star-crossed lovers has been a standard plot for quite some time.

Personally I think Underworld and Day/Night Watch are completely different movies. One is really an action with horror tropes (and an excuse to get Kate Beckinsale in a latex body suit or the little black dress), whilst the other is much more of the gothic horror school mixed with a good dose of Russian fatalism. Apart from both having vampires, I don't really see the comparison at all.
