The Big Read reckons that the average adult has only read 6 of the top 100 books they've printed. Well let's see.

1) Look at the list and bold those you have read.
2) Italicise those you intend to read.
3) Underline the books you LOVE.
4) Reprint this list in your own LJ so we can try and track down these people who've read 6 and force books upon them
5) Put a star next to those you've only partially read.

This probably shouldn't be of any surprise to anyone that knows me. I might have read a few I've left unmarked, but I can't particularly remember them. And yes, I have problems with reading Austen and Bronte.

I did find their selection of works to be rather curious though, especially their concentration on certain authors rather than broadening the range of great books, but then again, most people will have different ideas of what are the top 100 books. Apart from the Dumas and Shakespeare (which are the only things I really LOVED), I doubt any of these are on my list of my 100 favourite books.

63% read. Pathetic, but I really detest Regency romances.

Don't know.

But I agree with your sentiments. It's not a list I'd consider to be the 100 top books, or 100 classics, or 100 most popular...

I'd almost consider it to be the Hollywood great books list, as I think everything on it has had a movie or tv series made from it. Which kind of defeats the purpose.

I've read several other people's six too... Some of which I regret.
