Oh well. Just watched the first episode of RWBY Season 9 and I still can't help thinking that they have jumped the shark. But then I have always liked the world-building and they've thrown that all away with the trip down the literal rabbit hole.
I expect that for commercial reasons we will never reach the end of the original planned story (which was supposed to happen sometime within the next three seasons), as RWBY remains the only really saleable asset of the deeply financially troubled Rooster Teeth. I mean they are working on a movie team up of the RWBY characters with the Young Justice League (or whatever DC calls their non New Teen Titans teen supergroup).
Then again Rooster Teeth has let most of their animators go after they completed Season 9, so I don't know how they expect to do Season 10. The collegiate atmosphere of early RT had turned incredibly toxic when they tried to expand into a more professional company, coupled with incredible demands by management for crunch without even extra compensation). Most of the people who were let go seemed to have actually expressed relief that they are looking for a new job. Which is not a good sign.
Oh well. This was my "reason for staying alive series" (so I could find out what happens next and if my predictions for the end are correct). Now I shall have to find something else, but nothing really stands out. And no, The Last of Us doesn't count because I've watched the game version and so I know how it ends, even though the writers (from Crunchy Dog Games and Chernobyl) have done a magnificent job converting it to a different media. Even if you don't like zombie movies you should watch it (the zombies are really incidental to the TV version, apart from causing the collapse of civilisation and being an existential threat to humanity, of course.
[On a personal note my brain has stopped short-circuiting (which was pretty bad) and pain is irritating but tolerable.]
