Have been watching a number of YouTube "reactors" watch RWBY, since I can't seem to get enough of it at the moment. Their passion is fun, but I'm kind of saddened about the constant refrain that they now have to wait a year for the next volume, mainly because I honestly don't know if I'll be able to. They are lucky. Although I will add there are quite a few toxic individuals in the FNDM, but I suppose that's the new normal in these days of social media privilege.
Tempted to buy another board game for retail therapy, despite the fact I gave away the last two I bought without even opening them up to get that "new game" smell. And despite the fact I apparently have four Kickstartered board games in transit somewhere in the world at the moment. Although the one about goblins doing evil stuff like killing unicorns and trashing adventurer's camps is going to my favourite ethicist, because she really needs a release for her evil impulses.
Oh well Fringe starts next week. Tripod for valentines Day (it will be a massacre, I tell ya). Laurie Anderson almost a month after that (I've always like both her music and her performance shows - this is one of the later). And I want to see Kerryn do her Tull tribute so I can mention the excellent TV show American Princess to her (for her doppleganger stars in it). [Although it is very much an in-joke so it may not appeal to everyone. But very authentic.] A lot of the people I'm used to seeing aren't going to be there this year (the door has been very poor over the lat couple of years, especially for international acts). Even the Jane Austen people won't be here to try and convince me that there is some redeeming quality to her literature [joking aside if you get to see Esther Longhurst and Jessica Messenger do their Sense and Sponteneity improv show you should, and I highly recommend Jessica's solo Jane Austen: Private Eye (especially for those with an SF bent). But again a lack of people to go with and discuss the shows afterwards makes exploring the Fringe as I used to rather unappealing. It's just not as exciting unless you can actually share your discoveries with people.
And not even any fun gigs to go to since Brillig closed shop (although they keep promising Midnight Mares) and Mary Webb fled to Melbourne. And Spiral's audience became much too toxic to go to.
[This post was probably influenced by a whole lot of people feeling very tired at the moment. Which is probably going to affect me rather badly these days given the loss of empathic moderation. Not to mention the pain and lack of sleep that brings. Still saying it out loud helps.]
