Attended my first (and sadly only) Fringe show for this year, An Inaccurate History of Electronic Dance Music by Xani, a talented violinist from Melbourne who I first encountered in a much earlier Fringe as part of The Twoks. She is renowned for looping her music digitally, building up musical soundscapes just using her violin. Occasionally, as in this case, she is joined by a drummer to add percussion.

This concert (and the album) is based on a set of podcasts she did whilst trapped in Covid lockdown. Each featured a different style of electronic dance music (the distinctions between the various types is something that, like the distinctions in jazz or heavy metal, is pretty much lost on me).

I was joined at this show by the most excellent Dalmeny. Sadly whilst there was a dance floor cleared but I was unable to indulge. [I last danced to her music at a small gig where I was about twice as old as most of the other attendees.]

Xani is off to Tailinn next month to play in their International Music Week. She was collecting funds to send her to Estonia, but I only donated to the fund to bring her back afterwards.

As an addenda was saddened to discover that Róisín Murphy played at Womadelaide on Saturday night. This is the second time I missed seeing her live by finding out after her tour finished (I would definitely of headed across to Melbourne or Perth to watch Moloko live). Apparently it was a most excellent show. Oh well. I probably wouldn't have survived Womadelaide.
