"Okay, I'm just gonna say it out loud. There are times when going crazy looks attractive. And I'm not talking about becoming charmingly eccentric. I've already got that covered nine ways to Sunday. No, I'm talking about purposely emigrating to the land of lunacy. That special psychological zip code where The Ancient Laws of Behave Yourself no longer apply. My "reasoning" is simple. It takes a great deal of effort to sustain a conservative, trustworthy persona. Surrendering that effort would involve, from a Freudian perspective, a conscious dismantling of the super ego - that part of the psyche entrusted with enforcing parental and socially approved actions. And therein lies the allure of going full frontal wack-a-doodle. The constant energy required to pass as normal would suddenly become available for doing and saying whatever pleases me in the moment. Imagine it. The id and libido completely unbound by any and all moral or cultural restrictions. Hmm... Probably won't need the shrink anymore... might need a lawyer. "

For the first time my music service actually made a reasonable recommendation: Conatus by Zola Jesus [where you can listen to the whole thing for free]. Except it's not available for download from them in Australia. It's interesting to see what she is attempting, and I don't think she quite manages it on all the tracks, but at least she is in no danger of shooting her foot off (although high-flying zepplins had better watch out).

And while I remember I have to grab the new Julia Marcell album June as a physical edition from Amazon.de, since iTunes still laughs condescendingly at my computer and refuses to speak to it.

And yes, this is a note to me to remind myself.

ETA: Again, I fail to look at previous entries and go chasing after the new shiny. This month was Peter Gabriel's New Blood, The Sad Bastard's Book Club's Another Family Dinner At The Saturn Residence Ends In Tears and You Gave It Your Best ... Unfortunately That's Not Saying Much, Vernian Process' The Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove (admittedly one of my favourite DCD tracks), 17 Hippies' Phantom Songs and Heimlich, Eric Whitacre's Sleep My Child and BYU Choirs and Eric Whitacre 2, Kamelot's Poetry for the Poisoned, and Collide's Some Kind of Strange. If you can think of some kind of connection between all these sounds your a better robot than I am Hunka-tin. [It's also curious that songs I saved to look at later only two weeks ago are unlistenable to me at the moment and have me scratching my head trying to work out why I thought it was worthwhile making a note of them). Reviews may or may not follow depending on how I feel.

ETA2: Must remember: Hila Plitmann Butterflies and probably the other songs of Eric Whitacre's Paradise Lost (The Anime Opera!).
