music for the end of the year
Dec. 23rd, 2009 12:09 amAether Shanties is the latest release by self-proclaimed steampunk band Abney Park, and they are definitely moving away from their gothic roots. In a concession to truth in advertising, the album contains a large number of shanties suitable for steampunk aerialists, coupled with a number of heavier numbers, although they are all much lighter than their previous album (and still my favourite Abney Park album), Lost Horizons. Much more airship pirate, much less generic victoriana/steampunk, if that makes sense. Nothing has particularly struck my fancy (although I did enjoy The Derelict and Victoria), although it will probably take a few more listenings to truly appreciate the album. It does, however, go down quite well with Voltaire's To The Bottom Of The Sea. Also in music news |
