Having (intentionally*) not read the books, I suspect that the scriptwriter of The Half-Blood Prince was scared of throwing the baby out with the bathwater when adapting the book. It was a rather disconnected set of vignettes. Hopefully the book will be better. * Since it's one of the few genre adaptations where I hadn't read the books beforehand (and the first movie definitely showed promise in both plot and historical accuracy), I decided to avoid reading the books (or spoilers) and experience the films first, as an experiment.
