Tonight was the self-titled Tripod show with [livejournal.com profile] easterbilby. A fairly relaxed show (and not just because the lighting man missed his queue), it took the form of several of their recent songs and their usual relaxed banter, rather than having any particular theme (apart from "Gatsey is a Sponge"). A couple of new songs were in evidence, including their suggested solution to the SA water crisis (although I should mention for those people untrained in desert survival it is actually safer to drink your own urine than to do what they suggest in the song), Hey Charlie.

Whilst quite good, I do find myself quite nostalgic for the old Tripod shows with a full coherent theme, such as Tripod Tells The Tale of the Amazing Adventures of Tosswinkle the Pirate (Not Very Well) and Lady Robots that appeared in early Fringes. As it was, there wasn't really enough new stuff really excite me.

[livejournal.com profile] easterbilby, a Tripod virgin, did find them quite amusing and enjoyed the show. But then, I expect songs like The Wheel and The Seven Seas Sea Shanty would have catered to his interests, just as Wolfmother Tribute does to mine.

For those who have never encountered their musical comedy I heartily recommend it. If you like Tom Smith, Jonathon Coultan, or Flight of the Conchords, you'll probably like Tripod as well.

[And I now realise, writing the title, why they began the show with Holst's Mars, The Bringer of War, but I'm slow.]
