Apparently, if you pay cash when you purchase a Fringe ticket, there is no way for the Fringe to refund you automatically, so, despite their insistence on taking contact details "in case the show gets cancelled," they won't actually contact you to tell you the show is cancelled. Because then they would have to arrange some other way of refunding your ticket, and that is much too difficult. As you may have guessed this is the third Fringe show that was cancelled without anyone telling me, although this time the organisers were surprised, as they had been assured by the Fringe that everyone had been told. So I asked a friend in Fringe TIX and received this somewhat unusual (and totally off-the-record ) reply.

Unfortunately this was the one-and-only performance of Scott Edgar and the Universe in the entire run of the Fringe, and it hadn't been rescheduled, so this time there was no slight of hand trickery possible by the venue, and I had to manually get a refund from FringeTIX (which they were quite happy to do in person, just not so happy to have to arrange it over the phone or even by a form email). My apologies to all those people whom I said I couldn't do stuff today because I thought I was seeing a Fringe show this evening. You know who you are, even if you never leave a comment. Sniff.

Anyway, it having been scheduled as one of the last performances of the night, this left very few alternatives except the show that replaced it, which happened to be a violin/percussion duo from Melbourne called The Twoks. Now while I did express an interest in seeing them again, I hadn't really planned on doing so quite so soon. Anyway I did, and I in doing so realized that I had been rather hard on Ben's composition Nipple Twist. It's not as bad as I may have portrayed in a previous journal entry; just highly different. After the show I picked up several CDs recording some of their performance last Monday which I'll give away to people interested in such things.

The Gardens of Unearthly Delight were rather crowded, and, it being a public holiday the next day, still going strong when I left. Unfortunately you are never so lonely as when you in a crowd. Apparently [livejournal.com profile] molokov_au and friend wandered past me at a maximum distance of about two metres, but neither of us noticed the other.

So I left, and went and watched The Northern Lights [1] for a while, before heading home. I must admit that Bonython Hall in goth makeup was quite interesting.

Tomorrow [Fringe +17]: I'm seriously Fringed out. Almost couldn't make it through tonight's performance without collapsing in pain, so I think I shall make tomorrow (well, today actually) a day of rest.

On Tuesday [Fringe +18] I have a performance of A Record or an OBE (a Goodies tribute show apparently) at 6pm at the Fringe Factory (the old Balfours Factory), and an encore performance of Cyranose at 9:30pm nearby, mainly so I can pick up a DVD copies of Sherlock Holmes and the Saline Solution, Cleopatrick, and Romeo & Juliet V2.0 (the three main shows I haven't seen) and maybe a non-video copy of the others.

On Wednesday [Fringe +19] it's Tripod at the Umbrella.

Then possibly Ollie on Thursday [Fringe +20], Lumina on Friday [Fringe +21], and maybe even the Bollywood Dance Club on Saturday [Fringe +22] (although I've booked for none of these and the last is doubtful without a group of friends). I doubt there is anything I'd like to see on Sunday [Fringe +23], which marks the official end of the Fringe, and in my case 27 days of Fringe activities...

[1] As part of the Festival of Arts (the thing the Fringe is supposed to be a minor part of), they are projecting images on most of the stately old buildings on North Terrace (The Institute, Mortlock Library, Museum, Art Gallery, Mitchell Building, Elder Hall, and Bonython Hall). Looks good, and there is a half-dozen or so different images for each building. I liked the extreme babygoth makeover of the gothic-styled Bonython Hall. I found the Art Gallery disappointing because they still have the banners up for the various exhibitions, and it spoils the effects (although they are contractually obliged to do so, I believe)
