I remember when Pluck were just a very talented trio of buskers. And now they are filling a quite large theatre to capacity. I'm not sure if it was the largest audience that have ever heard Pluck play, but it was definitely (after a quick google) the largest so-far to see The Titanic Show. And yes, it was Pluck telling the story of the musicians on the Titanic on that doomed inaugral voyage, but in their usual combination of classical music with slapstick physical comedy. Unlike their previous two Fringe shows this isn't a number of loosely-connected skits, this is a full-blown production with a big set (and deck chairs one should never ever forget deck chairs). And yes, Sian continues to prove the maxim that all cellists are cute (and even cuter if they wear a big black mustache). And she is also rather small. I'm beginning to suspect a conspiracy here. Or at least the intervention of Dr Methusleah's Shrinking Ray ["But honestly Atom Man, I was just trying to compress the music." "Don't you know shrinking music is illegal! And stealing!" "Oh, thankyou Atom Man," says the RIAA]. Anyway, absolutely hilarious and well-worth seeing, even if it is just for Adrian being chased around the stage by a giant iceberg. You don't need me to go tell you to see them, but I suggest that you book early if you do want to go, as their shows always sell out fast. Parental Advice Warning: This show may contain traces of Morris Dancing. Tomorrow [Fringe +9]: I have nothing planned. My next booked show (Scott Edgar and the Universe) is exactly a week away. I suppose it's time to start going to see random shows, but such experimentation is best when you go with people so you can complain about how bad the show was (or compliment each other on discovering the show before it was known). Sigh. Anyway, I've heard good reports about Meow Meow (well, that she is a burlesque act who takes her clothes off while crowd surfing; and she can reputedly sing) from a number of sources, so I may give that a try. Most of the other reviews I've encountered have been for stand-up (not one of my favourite things), so I might have to see if the mainstream press has something to reccomend for next week. And I might as well give The Twonks a try on Monday. Oh noes. We have the makings of a plan <cringe> Something is going to go wrong. It has to. It's the rules. |
