this satyr daze
Sep. 12th, 2007 10:40 pmTwo things happening this weekend. Firstly: This Saturday sees the "Half Way to St. Patrick's Day" concert at the Brecknock Hotel, 401 King William St. It's a special event as a thankyou and farewell to the Moore family who have run the hotel for five generations, but who are now bowing out. The day will be huge, from noon to midnight, featuring many performers. Pagan morris girls Hot For Joe will be appearing, along with Hedgemonkey Morris, and besides Irish band the Heather Roaders, bluegrass band The Cowtippers and jazz ensemble The Jesse Che Band, the big evening event will be a two-set show between 8 and 10 by our very own Spiral Dance. Come along and farewell the family who gave us Adelaide's first (and best) Irish pub, in style -- enjoy a meal and a drink or three, and join the Spirals for pagan exuberance in the closing hours! Secondly: Vorpalcon is being held at The Old Adelaide Gaol this weekend. Times and events available from their web-site; basically registration is from 9am on each day. Unfortuneately prices aren't available there, so I assume it's open to <ahem> standard "aggressive negotiation techniques." Especially since the treasurer is a rather weedy individual from memory (and can't handle a light-sabre for love or money). I reccomend (if you can get in) Tone Kyp's (aka Kypper aka Tony Kyprianou) Call of Cthulhu (an excellent gamemaster from my mispent youth). Also reccomended is Chris Crouch's sample indie games such as Dogs in the Vineyard and The Fantabulous Zorceror of Zo. I really feel that the indie games market is where all the impressive game design work is happening. If I do manage to turn up I might bring a strange boardgame to play. Emira anyone? Maybe next year I'll be healthy enough to run something (the problem being is getting healthy usually equates back to getting extremely busy again at least I hope so). |
