Having given in to the importunings of [livejournal.com profile] ardent_caresses, I descended upon the Grace Emily to hear Melbourne duo Dandelion Wine perform the SA launch of their new album An Inexact Science, and was, indeed, favourably impressed.

To quote their own propoganda, "Dandelion Wine are an ethereal post-dreampop band that, while based in Melbourne Australia, inhabit a very different world." Composed of Naomi Henderson (vocals, flute, recorder, guitar, percussion, electronics, and looking nothing like her publicity photo [she cut her hair, but dyed it pink to compensate]) and Nicholas Albanis (dulcimer, guitars, lute, mandolin, electronics, percussion, and wearing a funny hat), it was fun to see musicians really rock with dulcimer and recorder. Although highly ambient, the highly energetic performance makes it music you cannot help but move to (unless you are an ultra-Goth, in which case you should just stand there looking all angsty and constipated and try to ignore those having a good time).

Unfortuneately ill-health may it impossible for me to stay for local act Brillig who was playing in support. But what I did hear sounded quite passable. Next time, Gadget, next time.
