there was a cowboy. he died. so did the other one. as did the sailor.

First serious trip out post flu (of which at least two people I am acquainted with have been hospitalised, so I'm hoping I don't relapse), was to see Brillig at The Wheatie. Great show, their entire performance was all the new songs they've spent the last few months writing. Unfortunately, whilst two are already available via various means (Port Misery and The Hearse Song), they won't be recording the new CD until they have had a lot more experience playing them live, so you'll have to wait for the other eleven. They were quite good ballads/laments, with a much more Western theme than their previous work. Still with the appropriate amount of death and despair for Brillig songs. You can get a taste at their new song blog.

They were aided by Tristran Newsome (formerly of The Self Preservation Society and now striking out on an even more solo career than as TSPS [and much more Western than Blues-Country, so the dog may not die any more*]), and Kelly Menhennett who took the Telstra Best Songwriter prize this year (and is off to Nashville as a result), and whose album might well have been worth getting if she had actually remembered to bring any to the gig. She at Higher Ground on Thursday 19th ($5) and The Gov on Friday 20th (?).

They also had awesome cup cakes to celebrate Elizabeth's birthday.

Now hopefully I haven't made my cough wosse and will get to Spiral on Sunday Arvo.

[* You know what happens when you play a country song backwards - the wife comes back, the dog lives, and he gets a new truck...]

Erk, that sounds like quite a flu! I was wondering how you were last night, as I went through some old tabs.

Glad you made it out, though. I hope the cough behaves and continues to recede.

I've decide that the new fashion is to wear one's lungs on the outside of one's body. Or so my cough has lead me to believe.

Exo-lungs!

All the cool kids are doing it!

I wonder if it will catch on.

Well, it certainly seemed to be popular among operatic heroines... *snerk*

I know two people that were hospitalised over it and the news reports that several people have died from it. [Apparently with much the same symptoms I had, which was effectively total deregulation of the hyperthalamus (or so it appeared to me from my perception). It really was not fun for the day the actual bout lasted. I suspect my doctor will tell me that I probably should have gone to hospital.]

Although many people are just getting a normal flu type thing. For me the cough didn't happen until I "got better" and the phlegm production started. Now it's just irritating. Immensely, explosively irritating.

Aiee, that sounds horrific. Please don't share it with me any time soon...

One global pandemic coming up!

Oh, do we have to? I've got plans for the weekend...

Speaking of Spiral Dance, would you like a lift there and back (or even just one of those ways) tomorrow?

Why that would be lovely!

Sorry: make that, that was lovely. <grin>

Didn't do much computer-orientated on Sat/Sun, so missed the message.

Just managed to stagger up to bed, although sleep was late due to the resumption of the cough. No way I would have made it back myself. So glad I wasn't even tempted to cycle.

Hope your car feels better soon!
