the weekends gigs reduxed

I was going to redo my comments about the weekend's gigs in a less pain-inspired stream of consciousness babble, but I don't think I'll bother. Just rest assured they were fun, DW was excellent and well deserved their chocolate frog, and B probably would have been great too if I hadn't been so busy dancing like a mad whirling dancey thing at the Spiral gig. Although thanks to a certain producer at 3D radio, who shall remain nameless, here are some highlights of the couple of gigs we both attended. See if you can spot the Ian in any of them. First one to do so gets turned to stone. Never play hide and go seek with a gorgon...]

Early Warning Sign by Dandelion Wine (with guest vocalist Leigh Stardust) at The Wheaty.

Shards by Dandelion Wine at The Wheaty.

Haul Away Joe by Hot For Joe and Spiral Dance at The Folk Fed.

For those who haven't seen me in any of them I apparently have the high albedo head.

And can anyone spot what is subtly wrong with this video...

Firkin Point by Claymore at the Wheaty.

Ooh, Claymore! I haven't seen them for a good fifteen years (1992 or 1993 Port Fairy Folk Festival?), but I did enjoy their stuff. I should probably see whether they have any other albums available nowadays...

So what did you deem subtly wrong with the video, anyway? I figure it's possibly that they were sensible enough not to dismantle an entire drum kit and assemble an entire 'nother one between sets at the gig? Am always a little bemused when people do that unless the kit setup is notably different from the standard, even knowing that drummers can be protective of their gear...

Well, yes. It was a bit of a <blink> moment when I saw the Spiral Dance drum kit. Especially since Spiral didn't actually play at that gig,* and that I know Rick (whose kit it is) has some blank covers, as well as covers for the various Spiral Dance aliases (Red Moon, The Cock-Eyed Mollys and Flange Desire). <grin>

As for Claymore, I've got Tribute, For Folk's Sake and Reflection and I think they've brought out a new one this last year. [He checks the Web of a 1000 Lies to discover he is totally wrong about the new album, and that he is missing some of the earlier albums, namely Heather Will Fade and Live at the Quiet Man. Oh well.]

* I believe that there is a combined Spiral/Claymore gig coming up either later this year or earlier next. As well as both of them playing at the Port Celtica Festival again in early December.

Ah.

Okay, if Spiral didn't actually play that gig, I can see how it would've been a bit jarring. Heh.

The Heather Will Fade (And The Bracken Will Die) is the album I have. So I'm only what, four behind? *grin*

As for anything early next year... I really should get around to posting that News, shouldn't I?

Cryptic Fox is bing cryptic again.

Curious Quasi-Autonomous Polymorphous Play-Room Assassination Device is still cutious.
