MUSIC MEME (Answered)

Put your music player on random.

– Post the first line from the first 32 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
– Let everyone guess what song and artist the lines come from.
– Bold the songs when someone guesses correctly.
– Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING

I only know one so far...

28. Safety Dance - Men with Hats

[identity profile] halfflat.livejournal.com 2008-09-25 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)

Only could pick two, and one of them was Safety Dance :-)
16. Shoehorn with teeth — TMBG

8. Prologue to 'The Ballad of Sweeney Todd', Sweeney Todd -- no idea which version you're listening to.
13. 'Vampires Are Alive', DJ Bobo, Swiss entry in Eurovision 2007? Not sure if you follow Eurovision.
17. 'You Are My Sunshine', folk tune; again, not sure which cover.

8. Ne w York Original Cast (Kennedy Center).
13. I really liked Bulgaria's entry (Water) that year (2007). I'm a sucker for good percussion and vocals (Elitsa was the lead of the chorus that sung the Xena theme btw). And have you ever tried to order CDs from Bulgaria – difficult – so I settled for the Eurovision version. At least that's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it. Which reminds me, I must try to order their CD again.
17. From O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

I know what 23. is originally from, but it has to be being used in some other context if they're the first two lines. I don't know which it is, but at least it gave me an excuse to listen to an infamously banned and recalled CD!

Would you care to state the source. It might nett you the name of the song, at the very least. Additional clue: they also named the album after this song.

The lines are from O Fortuna, from Carmina Burana (the first song in Carl Orff's setting). I thought it might have been from Apotheosis' O Fortuna (the CD mentioned above!), but they start from the beginning, except for the "Live Action Remix", which starts from the third verse with "Sors salutis".

10. Creator Destroyer by Wendy Rule on her latest album, WOlf Sky.

28. HAHAHAHAHHH! That is embarrassing ;)

[identity profile] reverancepavane.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)

Hey! I happen to like Men Without Hats. In fact they managed to get two songs into the list, although I doubt anyone will recognise the other.

And there are several versions of Safety Dance. This one is the American version. The film clip is the Australian Version, despite being shot in Canada (the woman dancing with Ivan is actually the daughter of the premier of Canada at the time). Any more trivia you would like to know?

Personally I'm just glad L'Ame Immortalle's Slut didn't make it on the list. One shouldn't write songs just after one has had an unfortunate breakup. Now that song is embarrassing (especially since it is otherwise on one of their best albums (one of whose songs is also on the list).

9. Mad World, by Tears For Fears.

[identity profile] reverancepavane.livejournal.com 2008-09-26 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)

Actually it's the redone version for the movie Donnie Darko, but since the dufferences are deeper in the song, you get the points.

25. One Short Day - Cast of Wicked :)
Did you see it/are you going to see it in Melbourne during its season?

[identity profile] reverancepavane.livejournal.com 2008-09-27 09:39 am (UTC)(link)

Nope. Haven't seen it, and I probably won't, unless I can convince a group of friends to see it with me.

The only time I go to stage shows alone is if I am already in love with the production and/or performer(s), or if it is the Fringe (which is cheap and packed with stuff to try). Even then, it's much more fun with friends (and will even go so far as to buy them tickets if they are willing to go with me).
