I do have to admit that Kim Boekbinder's music does tend to appeal to me, but it may not appeal to everyone. Trying to categorise her work, even on a single release, is next to impossible. Anyway, she has just released Chapter 1 of The Impossible Girl. And I really do recommend giving First The Bees... a listen as well.

In both cases you can listen to the complete songs and purchase the EP via the appropriate link. Personally I particularly enjoyed The Organ Donor's March and The Impossible Girl #1, although all the rest are quite enjoyable as well. The only soung I found vaguely problematic was Open-Avocado which I found slightly discordant. But that may be because it was so different from the other songs. Well worth the time giving them a listen anyway.

Besides she has horns on her hat. Which is a recommendation in and of itself.

Speaking of which, I do like this form of shopfront that many of the indie artists are using for two reasons. Firstly, because you can choose the format/size you want to download, so if you want lossless copies of the songs, you can actually get them. Secondly, whilst most albums have a set minimum price (these don't appear to have one btw), you can always pay more, so if you really like the work you can vote with your wallet. It does have the possible disadvantage that you sell by the album though, so you can't cherry pick songs, but then most of the albums have had a minimum price well below the impulse buy threshold of anyone. [Although what I'd really like to see is the big music services start charging for songs as data (that is, you pay for the size of the download), rather than on a per-song basis, and with variable quality. But I doubt it will happen.]
