[FRINGE] i love watching you sleep

Rickett's Lane is the new show by Sammy J and Heath McIvor (the duo that brought us the excellent Forest of Dreams the Fringe before last). In this case Sammy J and Randy (Heath's puppet alter ego from last Fringe's Postcards from Randy), are living in a share house at 30 Rickett's Lane, Glen Iris. Sammy J is is shit-taking tax lawyer, whilst Randy ... isn't. But they are friends and support each other (albeit sometimes in as creepy a measure as the title for this entry might indicate). Until of course, things happen, and they find themselves separated. And so must hatch a scheme to get reunited.

Like all Sammy J shows this is essentially a musical comedy with the vaguely off-colour songs you'd expect (unlike Forest this isn't really a kid friendly production unless you really want to explain the facts of life to them in as thoroughly confusing a manner as possible). Lots of fun songs though (sung by both Sammy and Randy) and excellent comedy joining them together. The only sour note was that it looked like the production had been designed for the normal theatres in the Garden (which are amphitheatre style without a stage), whereas the Umbrella Revolution has a raised stage which meant that most of the action was happening above the audience, making it difficult, for example, to work out the exact play of chebble. And it also had the problem that the natural eyeline of the audience was at the level of the blackout curtains supposedly hiding Heath. Boy that boy can waddle fast while crouched!

Well worth seeing.
